Well it’s a new year so a new 52-week project is started. This year it’s my dog Pete! I was torn on whether to use Pete or his sister, Scout since she has participated in a project yet. After a lot of consideration, I went with Pete. Pete is 13 years old and we have had him since he was 8 weeks. Pete is my first dog I’ve had as an adult and we have been through a lot together. From hiding him in my apartment where I wasn’t suppose to have dogs to him being diagnosed with Addison’s Disease, there’s no doubt that Pete belongs with us.
The great thing about a project like this is it that it helps me create more memories and I’ll have a hand full of more photos of my subject to print and display. It also helps me get 1 on 1 time with my dog. Having 4 dogs makes the 1-on-1 time sometimes not happen as often as it should. Pete is my best friend. This best friend yells (barks) at me to sit on the couch; this best friend tries to drag mud in the house whenever he can. This best friend likes to pee on my trash can when he’s mad. Come to think about it, Pete’s kinda a jerk…lol. Jerk or not, he’s the best and I’m looking forward to the next 52 weeks.
Week1- Pete was sitting on my lap and the light from the picture window was hitting him pretty well so I grabbed my Fuji X100s and was able to get a nice little portrait of him. I love the tone of this and the Fuji produces such beautiful images. To me, this was a good start to the project.
Week 2- I took Pete out and had planned on stopping some where for a photo shoot. It was too cold for both of us, but I did grab this shot with my iPhone. I wish I would have had a better camera with me but the best camera you have is the one in your hand. Although it’s nothing special, it is kind of a slice-of-life shot. When Pete is out riding with me this is where you will find him a lot of the time .
Week 3- Pete found himself in Explore on Flickr! Explore is when Flickr features your photo and a lot of eyes see it. We had just gotten done with some yard time and I was trying to get Pete and his sister, Scout, together in the shot. Scout didn’t want to cooperate. I love Pete’s head tilt in this one.
Week 4- Once a month, the 52-week group I’m in does a theme. This week’s theme was “me and my dog.” I’m not big on being in front of the camera but I decided I would try a selfie for this one. This was shot with my iPhone really quick on a Sunday morning. We had to get back to relaxing. As you can tell, Pete is thrilled I woke him up.
Week 5- We headed out to the tent camping area at Johnson Saulk Trail outside of Kewanee. This is one of my favorite places to shoot during the cold months when the park’s empty. I love all the trees and how they are spaced out. If there’s no snow, then it looks like the photo was taken in the fall. One of my previous best photos of Pete was taken there so I was hoping for the same magic. Although this photo is nice, it’s nothing like his other one.
This is just part 1 of Pete’s project and I will continue posting on occasion to keep you up to date on how the project is going. I’ll try and do it once a month.
