This year I had a giveaway where I gave away a photosession and an 8x12 metal print. Morgan and her dog Bentley were the winners! We were able to get out for the photo shoot on Good Friday and we really had some nice weather for it. This first photo is one of my favorites from the session we found this dirty alley in town and I thought it worked.
Bentley was a little shy at the start of the shoot but he came around towards the end of the shoot. He's a Miniature Schnauzer with maybe some Westie mixed in and he has such a soft coat. The shoot started at Wiley Park in Galva and we managed to hit a few other locations, one thing I notice when I'm on a photo shoot is I loose track of time very easily so this 1 hour session turned into a 2 hour session but it was worth it.
A lot of times I've never met the people or dogs that I'm going to photograph before the session and have only talked by email or phone sometimes that works out good because then I can ask questions and once a conversation gets started then everybody (even the dog) loosens up and the session starts to flow. I always add in an extra 1/2 hour to a session because I know that the dog and their human are going to need a few minutes to get comfortable with the situation. During our conversation I learned that Morgan is a Senior at Northern Illinois University and she will have her degree in Meteorology and I love weather so I thought that was cool so when I asked how she decided to go on that career path she told me how she was 4 and lived in Galva in '96 when the tornado came through town and her home was one of them that was destroyed. Wow I thought she was 4 in '96 and I was a sophomore in High School man I'm old. The real wow that stuck out in my head was she said she wanted answers to why the tornado hit and what could be done to warn people in the future, to me that is a great reason to pursue a career path and I hope to see her on the news in the near future.
Bentley loves to hang his head out the window of the car and I wanted to capture that. We tried a couple of things but I think this worked out the best. I like how you can see Morgan in the mirror and Bentley's reflection in the back window.
Bentley wasn't crazy about chasing his toys but he was all about chasing the treat bag when it was thrown.
Look at that face do you think he hears no very often?
Mmmm treat time I deserve it.
Thanks to Bentley and Morgan for allowing me to photograph them on such a beautiful day.
